On 19 May 2026, the Auditor General, Mr. Maksim Acevski, MSc, and the Deputy Auditor General, Mr. Orhan Ademi, MSc, together with their associates, held a working meeting at the State Audit Office with the President of the European Court of Auditors, Mr. Tony Murphy, and Mr. Péter Borsos, Attaché from the Office of the President.
The Auditor General, Mr. Maksim Acevski, expressed his gratitude for the first official visit of the President of the European Court of Auditors to the State Audit Office and presented the activities and achievements of the SAO as the country’s supreme audit institution.
The President of the European Court of Auditors, Mr. Tony Murphy, expressed appreciation for the presented activities and achievements of the State Audit Office, emphasizing that it is a credible supreme audit institution which, over the past 15 years, has enabled more than 20 state auditors to undertake traineeships at the European Court of Auditors.
As part of the bilateral visit, the Auditor General, Mr. Maksim Acevski, and the President of the European Court of Auditors, Mr. Tony Murphy, also held a working meeting with the President of the Assembly, Mr. Afrim Gashi, during which they discussed ongoing cooperation and planned future activities in several areas.
These initiatives are essential for strengthening audit capacities in the context of the Western Balkans Growth Plan and the Reform Agenda. In addition, they will support activities within the Network of SAIs of EU candidate and potential candidate countries. The visit marks an important step towards enhancing cooperation and improving the efficient management of EU funds to achieve sustainable development in the region.
