Annual Conference on Enhancing Institutional Cooperation to Formalize the Informal Economy

On 18 February 2026, the Auditor General, Mr. Maksim Acevski, participated in the Annual Conference on the topic “Formalization of the Informal Economy: Cooperation as a Path to Success,” held today in Skopje, organized by the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the International Labour Organization (ILO), and the Faculty of Economics – Skopje.

The conference represents a significant national forum for promoting a coordinated approach to addressing the informal economy through strengthened institutional cooperation, the exchange of experiences, and the definition of concrete measures and actions.

At the conference’s opening, remarks were delivered by the Prime Minister, Mr. Hristijan Mickoski; the Minister of Finance, Ms. Gordana Dimitrieska Kochoska; the Minister of Economy and Labour, Mr. Besar Durmishi; the Dean of the Faculty of Economics at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University – Skopje, Prof. Dr. Mijalche Santa; the National Coordinator of the ILO for North Macedonia, Mr. Emil Krstanovski; and the Resident Representative of UNDP in the country, Mr. Armen Grigorijan.

At the conference, the Auditor General, Mr. Maksim Acevski, signed the Partnership and Action Declaration titled “Shared Commitment to the Formalization of the Informal Economy in North Macedonia.” By signing the declaration, the institutions reaffirmed their commitment to coordinated, systematic action to reduce the informal economy, strengthen the rule of law, enhance transparency, and ensure sustainable economic development.

The participation of the State Audit Office in this event underscores the role of the supreme audit institution in ensuring accountability, improving the management of public resources, and supporting reform processes that contribute to the formalization of economic flows in the country.
