A bilateral meeting was held at the premises of the State Audit Office with the delegation of the Supreme Audit Institution of Romania, led by the President of the Romanian Court of Accounts, Ms. Mirela Călugăreanu.
The Auditor General, Mr. Maksim Acevski, welcomed the delegation and emphasized the importance of mutual cooperation between supreme audit institutions as a key mechanism for knowledge exchange and the advancement of audit practices.
“‘Cooperation with our colleagues from Romania is an opportunity to enhance professional standards and jointly promote auditing as a tool for better governance and greater accountability in the public sector,” emphasized Mr. Acevski.
At the meeting, the main activities and results from the work of the State Audit Office were presented, including the Annual Report, the approach to creating added value through audit work, audits of local self-government units and the monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals, the visualization of audit results, and the institution’s communication strategy.
The President of the Supreme Audit Institution of Romania, Ms. Mirela Călugăreanu, highlighted the importance of institutional trust and ongoing dialogue between supreme audit institutions:
“Today’s meeting is a confirmation of our shared commitment to building partnerships based on professionalism, transparency, and common values,” stated the President Călugăreanu.
As part of the visit, President Călugăreanu and Auditor General, Mr. Acevski also met with the President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, Mr. Afrim Gashi. They discussed the role of supreme audit institutions in supporting democratic processes and parliamentary oversight.
The meeting concluded with a joint agreement that there is strong potential for further cooperation between the two institutions, particularly through future parallel audits and joint initiatives in areas of mutual interest.
