The webinar was opened by Prof. Dr. Predrag Trpeski, Dean of the Faculty of Economics in Skopje, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Sanja Bojanic and Prof. Dr. Vladimir Filipovski, Head of the Department of Economics.
In the panel discussion moderated by Professor Borce Trenovski, presentations were given by Auditor General Maksim Acevski, Minister of Finance Fatmir Besimi, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of good governance policies Slavica Grkovska and Director of Public Revenue Office Sanja Lukarevska.
In his presentation, Mr. Acevski referred to the most common forms of informal economy, the reasons for its existence, as well as the main challenges in formalizing informal economy. In his presentation, he pointed to potential solutions for dealing with this negative phenomenon:
- strengthening capacities of competent bodies and their mutual cooperation, harmonization and joint action;
- better business environment for the establishment, growth and development of companies;
- stimulating and supporting formalization of informal economic activities;
- strengthening tax morale and reducing tolerance for informal economy;
- continuous public educational and information campaign for providing broad support for formalization of informal economy.
At the end of his presentation, Auditor General pointed out that "Investing in human resources and valuing results of the public sector employees, in particular in the field of state audit, internal audit, inspection and customs services and other relevant activities, is a worthwhile investment of the state that will have far-reaching benefits of the invested funds".
