In the premises of the Ministry of Finance, Auditor General Maksim Acevski met with the Minister of Finance Fatmir Besimi to discuss and submit for further action the draft State Audit Law.
The new law, which is expected to enter the procedure of reviewing and adoption by the Government and the Assembly was drafted together with the State Audit Office of the Republic of Croatia and the National Audit Office of the Republic of Bulgaria as partners within the EU funded Twinning project "Improvement of External Audit and Parliamentary Oversight” MK 18 IPA F1 03 20.
The new law provides for strengthening financial and operational independence of the State Audit Office, acting upon audit recommendations and opportunity for review of final audit reports by the Assembly.
These are significant improvements in the state audit legislation in line with EU requirements and the International Standards of Supreme Audit Institutions (ISSAIs).
