State Audit Office and UNDP signed Memorandum of Understanding, which defines future joint activities aimed at building even more efficient and effective audit system in the country. The memorandum, signed by UNDP Resident Representative for the Republic of North Macedonia Armen Grigoryan and Auditor General of the State Audit Office Maksim Acevski envisages intensifying current cooperation in several segments of joint work.
UNDP Resident Representative Armen Grigoryan expressed satisfaction with the current cooperation with the State Audit Office, emphasizing the key role of SAO as an institution - guardian of public funds.
"We should always keep in mind that accountability for the use of public funds is a cornerstone of democratic governance. Therefore, the Memorandum of Understanding we are signing today will reaffirm our joint commitment to advance the implementation of SDGs, to strengthen SAO capacities as well as to increase accountability and responsibility of public institutions" said Mr. Grigorjan.
In his address, Auditor General Maksim Acevski addressed the expectations from the future cooperation for promoting and advancing public finance management reform in the area of state audit, strengthening and upgrading capacities of state auditors in different fields, effective system management, as well as enhancing transparency and accountability through digitalization of processes and services.
The Memorandum of Understanding defines a series of activities to be implemented in the next two years - promotion and development of public finance management reform and external audit; audit of accrual financial statements, performance audit, audit of Sustainable Development Goals and audit of local self-government units; support to institutional and organizational development capacities in environmental management; strengthening transparency and accountability through digitalization of processes and services.
