SAO delegation headed by Auditor General Maksim Acevski together with SAO representatives who are members of the financial control working group, participated in the bilateral screening for the Chapter Public Administration Reform and Chapter 32 Financial Control.
In its presentation SAO highlighted the achieved results, compliance of operations with ISSAIs and best practice, as well as the short-term and long-term plans, such as the arrangement of the State Audit Office as a constitutional category and the adoption of the new state Audit Law.
Bilateral screening is the first step in the process of accession negotiations with the EU. The process allows candidate countries to familiarize themselves with EU laws and standards and the obligations arising thereof, as well as with the level of preparedness of the countries and their plans for further alignment.
The State Audit Office is one of the leading institutions in the country, custodian of citizens' public assets and active participant in several Chapters of the bilateral screening.
