Developing cooperation with the National Audit Office

The supreme audit institutions of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Bulgaria fulfilled their mission to be the first and particularly successful example for all other institutions on achieving fruitful cooperation through exchange of professional experience and knowledge.

This is the conclusion of the meeting held in Sofia where delegations of both SAIs headed by SAO Auditor General Maksim Acevski and NAO President Tzvetan Tzvetkov discussed the results achieved and the successfully implemented activities within the Twinning project "Improvement of External Audit and Parliamentary Oversight".

The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia in Bulgaria H.E. Agnesa Rusi Popovska and the director of the "Southeastern Europe" Directorate in the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ms. Vanya Andreeva-Malakova.

Auditors General expressed satisfaction with the Twinning project results, noting that the success follows from collegial openness, honesty and sincerity of both SAIs in sharing knowledge and challenges in daily work. Positive results and new products have been achieved in all 4 project components, particularly in ​​the legal framework, methodology and audit activity, cooperation with the Assembly and communication with stakeholders.

The Heads of the audit institutions signed cooperation agreement as a natural continuation of what was completed accomplished and as reflection of the long-term cooperation between both SAIs. The main forms of cooperation will be exchange of experience, organization of activities on issues of mutual interest, including consultations, seminars, round tables, conferences on the main problems and challenges in performing state audit, as well as implementation of parallel, coordinated and joint audits.

The representatives of the two institutions also held a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria Mr. Galab Donev, where he was introduced to the main project objectives, the achieved results, as well as the possibilities for continuation of the cooperation between the SAIs with the signed agreement.
