From 1-3 July 2021, the State Audit Office and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women - UN Women, carried out workshop focused on gender responsive budgeting, with special focus on gender impact assessment of policy and regulation.
During the first day of the workshop, auditors discussed about legislation, gender responsive budgeting methodology and active sector programs that include gender responsive budgeting. The training focused on regulatory impact assessment (RIA) and the application of gender responsive budgeting as a necessary tool in the audit execution phase, in line with SAO Annual Work Program for 2021.
The workshop included interactive exercises and case studies, which emphasized planning as an important process for ensuring effective gender responsive policies considering the possible impact - social, economic and gender.
Through active group activities and presentation of ideas and experience in this area, the auditors discussed the processes of collecting all necessary data that should be taken into account when preparing for the audit, especially in terms of gender responsive policies.
The workshop was part of the UN Women project “Promoting Gender-Responsive Policies and Budgets: Towards Transparent, Inclusive and Accountable Governance in the Republic of North Macedonia”, supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency – Sida.
