International Anti-Corruption Day

06.12.2024

On 5 December 2024, at the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption invitation, Auditor General Maksim Acevski participated in a formal event at the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia in observance of International Anti-Corruption Day. The event was organized as part of the USAID Anti-Corruption Partnership Project and the "Communities with Integrity" project funded by the Government of Switzerland and implemented by the National Democratic Institute.

During the panel discussion, the Auditor General expressed gratitude for the invitation and emphasized that it must be clear to everyone that the key tool in the fight against corruption is prevention, that is, building a systemic approach for efficient public funds management, and strengthening internal controls among entities that use public funds.

The fundamental prerequisite is building sustainable and efficient public administration that will continuously develop professional knowledge and skills, accompanied by digitalizing service delivery processes to minimize the risks of discretionary influences on service seekers, i.e., the citizens, pointed out Auditor General.

Expressing gratitude to international partners IFES, UNDP, UN Women, NDI, USAID, the US and Swiss Embassies, and other long-term partner countries, the Auditor General highlighted that it is time for the country to finally demonstrate that it can independently and authoritatively, and with high integrity prevent corruption, and that the investments made by international partners in strengthening the institutional and human capacities were not in vain.

The event featured opening remarks from the President of the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption, Ms. Tatjana Dimitrovska, the President of the Assembly, Mr. Afrim Gashi, H.E. Veronique Ullman, Ambassador of Switzerland, Mr. Ben Nupnau, Deputy Head of EU Delegation, and Ms. Jeri Dible, Director of USAID North Macedonia.
