On 27 November 2024, the State Audit Office marked its significant jubilee – 25 years as a guardian of public funds. On this occasion, the SAO, partially supported by EUROSAI, organized a conference in Skopje under the topic “Exchange of Experiences in the SAIs Communication Process with Stakeholders – Opportunities and Challenges,” which brought together expert representatives from various international organizations, supreme audit institutions, and professional associations.
Auditors General from supreme audit institutions, experts from the academic community, representatives of civil society organizations, and media professionals attended the conference. It was an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences, ideas, and solutions aimed at improving communication processes and methodologies in supreme audit institutions.
The event addressed key challenges and opportunities in audit practice. The first discussion focused on transparency and the importance of clear communication of audit findings to build trust and encourage timely reactions.
The second discussion was dedicated to applying innovative communication tools and technologies that enhance the audit process and increase transparency.
The third discussion highlighted the significance of cooperation with all stakeholders to improve the quality and credibility of audit processes, with an emphasis on building strong partnerships and fostering trust between institutions and the public.
“It is crucial to build strong partnerships and foster trust with all involved parties. Our goal is not to compete, but to exchange ideas and best practices to advance auditing and create more efficient and transparent institutions. Only through joint efforts could we ensure high standards of professionalism and continuous development of public accountability, said Auditor General Maksim Acevski.
This event was an important moment for the SAO - to mark its 25-year history and look toward the future, emphasizing its commitment to the principles of impartiality, transparency, and continuous development of audit processes and public accountability.
The State Audit Office will continue supporting and implementing innovations in its operations to ensure high standards of professionalism and to strengthen public trust in institutions and audit processes in North Macedonia.
At the celebration of the 25th Anniversary, speeches were delivered by the President of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia Afrim Gashi, and senior representatives of the diplomatic corps in the country - EU Ambassador H.E. Michalis Rokas, Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy Nicole Varnes, Ambassador of Sweden H.E. Ami Larsson Jain, and the Ambassador of Switzerland, H.E. Veronique Hulman Marty.
