The importance of audit reports in the fight against corruption was the topic of an online training held on 18 May 2021, organized by Transparency International Macedonia. Aside from SAO representatives, the training was attended by representatives of the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption (SCPC), the Academy for Judges and Public Prosecutors, prosecutors from public prosecutor's offices and the Center for Economic Analysis.

The training was conducted as part of USAID Civic Engagement Project, aimed at strengthening cooperation between anti-corruption institutions to improve mutual cooperation and action by competent institutions with regards to the findings in SAO final audit reports.

As a trainer, Rosica Shalevic Hristovska, Assistant Auditor General, presented the structure of audit reports and the methodology for performing state audit.

Auditors emphasized that in line with the State Audit Law, if the authorized state auditor in the course of the audit assesses that the entity has committed misdemeanor or crime, he/she is obliged to inform the competent authorities immediately for further action.

Therefore, SAO regularly informs the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Ministry of Interior and the SCPC by submitting final audit reports with detected indications of possible financial abuse and illegal action, and thus actively contributes to the fight against corruption.

In addition, the participants actively discussed about different experiences and cooperation between key institutions responsible for fight against corruption and gave suggestions on how to strengthen and intensify the cooperation and action of competent institutions upon SAO final audit reports.
