The State Audit Office continuously invests in strengthening skills and knowledge of state auditors, which provides additional quality in the operation and professional integrity of the institution as the holder of progress in public funds management.

From 31 May to 3 June, SAO employees participated in training on "Audit of financial statements prepared on accrual basis", organized and financially supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

Lecturers were Mr. Atanasko Atanasovski, professor at the Faculty of Economics - Department of Accounting and Audit, and Ms. Lucia Kashiarova, expert from the Ministry of Finance of the Slovak Republic.

The working sessions covered several areas:

  • Definition and valuation of inventory and measuring the cost of inventory;
  • Cash flow statement, direct and indirect method;
  • Accounting policies, changes in accounting estimates and errors;
  • Depreciation of tangible and intangible assets; and
  • Provisions, contingent liabilities and contingent assets.

Strengthening SAO capacities in performing audit of financial statements on accrual basis is aimed at successful implementation of the recommendations contained in the Public Financial Management Reform Program.
